The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has chosen Sensebit to help further develop its collection of road traffic data. Sensebit will deliver systems for both continuous and periodic data collection for all regions and departments within Norwegian public roads administration on both national and country roads.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) is revising its traffic data collection system for increased efficiency in conjunction with the “2013-2018 Traffic Data Action Plan”. The overall goal of the new system is to achieve high quality data for both statistics and real-time observations. To reach the goals, a fairly extensive replacement of existing roadside data collection equipment will be carried out.

The NPRA has chosen the STMS ED-100 vehicle detector from Sensebit for use within its data collection network. The ED-100 enables high quality real-time data collection, a quicker installation and less maintenance than inductive loops.

The framework agreement is valid for all regions and departments within Norwegian public roads administration during two years, with an option of extending the agreement by two years.

“We are very proud to be selected by the NPRA among the 11 companies that competed for the contract. The NPRA has long been in the forefront of modern traffic data collection and will push the frontier even further with the new system”, says Fredrik Zettergren, CEO at Sensebit.

Anders Godal Holt, Head of the ITS section at NPRA comments: “Sensebit has offered a winning combination of a good price and good understanding of the assignment. They provide good documentation about the quality of registrations and they were ranked highly in their understanding of the assignment”.

About the NPRA
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is responsible for collecting traffic data on the national and county road network in Norway. Collection of traffic data takes place at both fixed data collection sites with monitoring throughout the year, so-called continuous data collection, and non-fixed sites with periodic traffic data collection.
